PHOTO FUN

I have spent a little time this evening messing about with one of my favourite photos.  

I took a picture of a hibiscus in my garden several years ago and it always brings a smile to my face. 

I have altered it a little with my computer.  Sometime I might print these pics onto some fabric for embroidery.

Every day is precious.

I thought I would go a little off subject tonight.

Last night I attended a football match and before the match there was an event called the Field of Women Live 2010.  It is an event where 14,000 men & women assembled on the football field to represent the number of people who will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.  It was a very moving event and even though I have not been touched by this particular disease, it was a reminder of the fragility of life.  

I was fortunate enough to be there with my daughter and her daughter.  It was such a good thing to share.

We didn't win the football match but we did have a great night. 

 The photos are not really good but the first one shows the people moving from the stands onto the field.

The second photo was taken when the stadium lights were turned off and the people on the field turned their coloured lights on.

This stadium holds 90,000 people although it was no where near full the atmosphere was fabulous.

THE MIGHTY OAK

On a visit to the garden centre yesterday I picked up an oak leaf which was past its best but I love the way leaves decay and break down.

 

I scanned it on the computer and then printed it onto some silk that I had fused to vilene.  

The colour turned out strange because I am running out of colour in my printer but I quite like it anyway.

Once it was printed I decided just to stitch with the machine as my hands were a  bit sore with the cold weather having arrived.  I added a little foil and it will be a book cover when I have time to finish it off.

A NEW ADVENTURE EVERY DAY

Today has been really strange.  Warm and windy this morning and now cold and raining with thunder and lightening.  Well that's Melbourne I guess.  

I went to a sale today at place that makes knitwear out of merino wool and possum fur.  Gorgeous warm jumpers and scarves and gloves and berets.  Yes I shopped.  Once winter sets in here it is very cold so I needed some new woolies.

I have taken a photo of some of the tyvek fairies I made some time ago.  The tyvek was painted with lumiere paints and then heated with the heat gun.  The faces are made of air dried clay and painted with lumiere metallic paints.  The hair is silk tops or wool fleece. 

RAINBOW CIRCLES

I have been looking through some photos of my embroidery and found something I would like to share.  Some time ago the Embroiderers' Guild UK forum participated in a project to make some "rainbow squares".  Each circle in the square had to be just 3 inches and worked in one colour.  These are two that I created.  I wanted to use as many stitches and materials as I could to demonstrate the diversity of the opportunities available to needlewomen.    There are silk ribbons and threads as well as tiny beads and crystals.

MAY AND NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS.

I am amazed to have reached May already and have still kept my resolution.  For those who don't know, I resolved not to buy any materials for my stitching/creations this year.  I have a huge stash of beautiful fabrics, threads and beads and as I don't follow instructions, but rather make things up as I go along, I don't need particular things for a project.

Although I haven't shopped, I have received some goodies in the mail from friends, so I have had plenty to inspire me.

Speaking of inspiration, I have taken some photos in the garden this weekend.  The grevilleas are looking especially good. I am not sure what the white flower is though.

HAPAZONE

I have had a bit of a try with the hapazome.  I did not prepare very well and the results are a bit hapharzard.  However I did enjoy it and will do it again.  I used the iron to heat set the fabric but wonder if I should use some textile medium as well.  Anyway I will attach some pics.

I found that some of the harder leaves worked better than the soft ones and some flowers didn't work at all.  However I will give it another go.
