Crazy patchwork & machine embroidery

I am currently working on some challenges & swaps for the Embroiderers Guild UK Forum and so cannot show what I am doing until these projects end.

In the meantime I thought I would show you a cushion I made quite some time ago.

The fabrics and ribbons I used are some favourite scraps and left overs: the burgundy and grey work well together and the ribbon and lace complement the fabrics.

The rose in the centre and the one in the right hand corner were stitched with my Janome memory craft 300E.
I had stitched the fabrics together; some by hand and some by machine and then hooped the fabric up to create the roses.

I then added lace, ribbons, buttons and hand stitching.

I am going to investigate the use of the embroidery machine in future projects.  The use of machine generated embroidery is often criticized as "not creative":  I hope to show that this is not a valid criticism.

That cushion is just gorgeous Dian. I think the machine embroidered flowers on the pieced background look great, and the added texture with flowers and beads, etc., make for an interesting cushion. Grey is very much on my mind at the moment, but alas, I'm not permitted to add any other colour to highlight it. Thanks for sharing this, I hadn't seen it.

My husband once offered to buy me a new sewing machine that was able to embroider, and I declined with a sniff "I do REAL embroidery". The saleswoman was very cross, and I don't blame her! The ladies in the Embroiderers Guild who specialise in machine embroidery create some absolutely fabulous things, that one would not be able to do by hand, so I have egg on my face from that comment so many years ago! Your cushion proves the point - it really is stunning.

Gorgeous colours in this project Dianne. Love crazy patchwork.

I always think anything you create is "creative", there is often criticism for cross stitch too, but if I enjoy it, it's creative to me., So follow your own inclinations and enjoy. It'll be delightful as always.
