A creative gift
My granddaughter has been staying with me again: Ally loves to create book covers and uses bits and pieces from my stash.
The book has a white cover and the addition of text, stamps and stickers is really striking.

books and branches
I have almost finished my wall hanging. I don't think I have ever done more "unstitching" on a project before. A matter of an overdose of ideas.
I have been troubled by the number of empty and misshapen branches but of course this is a normal part of the native trees that surround us.
Today I picked up some books I bought on line.
These are not your regular hard back books.
They were advertised as "display novels" and as you can see the page are blank.
Now these suit me quite well while I wait for my new reading glasses but they offer such possibilities for creativity. I bought 15 white covered books and 4 black covered books for $20. What a bargain!!!!
If you had these books what would you do with them?

I AM ON A ROLL - WATER COLOUR PENCIL & THREAD
Today I made a note book cover: the fabric is calico (recycled curtain lining) on which i made a coloured spiral with water colour pencils.
Using different coloured threads I followed the lines of the spiral so give them more definition. This was something I did a while ago when three creative studios had a monthly technique to try.
I backed it with pink sheeting (yes recycled) and then stitched it with my overlocker to make the cover.
This will go in my box of gifts to give during the year.

A LITTLE BIT OF STITCHING

I have made these little book covers as last minute gifts.
They are quick & easy to make and use small scraps of fabric.
This is a phone pouch with two sections: one for the phone the other for glasses or note book.
This is the back of the phone pouch: the fabric is designed by an aboriginal artist. I have several pieces of this type of fabric and it is great for this type of project.
The back of one of the notebooks.
This is a larger version and covers a sketch book. I dyed the fabric and the doiley myself: I quite like the earthy colours.

WHAT A MUDDLE
The last few days I seem to have made more mess than anything else. I have been going through my stash and and ufo's .
I called at a local gift shop and after a bit of a chat it was decided that I could display some of my 'creations' in the shop with the hope of selling some. Very exciting!!!!
It is just a small shop and the area is not very well-to-do but you never know where it will lead.
Any way I found this little purse that I made a while ago and a book cover created this earlier this year. This afternoon I started putting together some ideas for the shop. I have lots of pieces of hand dyed fabric.
Of course I am not sure what they will be but I have a few ideas.
The colours are lovely & bright.

NEW BOOK COVER
I managed to turn my printed leaf into a book cover.
The lining fabric was some cotton print I had in my stash and matched the leaf perfectly.

March - perserverence.
I have been playing around with painting lace and trying to make it look worthwhile.
The first step - using mistyfuse to bond the lace to the background. At this stage I added foil so that the parts of the mistyfuse not in contact with the lace would pick up the silver foil.
then the painting with lumiere. I tried to keep to the silvery theme but in the end it was just too much so I had to do something to change it.
Some lilac tulle and some organza ribbon was in the stash so I machine stitched and fused until it looked ok. Then I took to it with the heat gun and the soldering iron. Still not pleased I set it aside to see if it spoke to me. Eventually I settled on a few beads and stitches. cut away more of the ribbon to expose the lace.
Just lined it and turned it into a note book cover.
Perserverence pays.
